Colorful Mittens

When it is cold, mittens are great for keeping warm. I found this flannel board over at Adventures in Storytime. As I read through the rhyme, the goal is for kids to listen to the name of an object and think of a color that rhymes with that object. These mittens can be used with the plain side showing or the reverse in which I have taped clip art showing the object that I am saying. It is a great way to play with language and develop reading skills.

Colorful mittens for me and you,
Red ones, yellow ones, blue ones, too.
But the one pair of mittens that rhymes with _____,
They’re my favorite mittens, and they are _____!

Suggested Pairs
sled-red
fellow-yellow
shoe-blue
bean-green
crown-brown
jack-black
sink-pink
kite-white
cold-gold
fan-tan
