The Little Bird

Somewhere along the way I came across Elizabeth Mitchell and her Blue Clouds album. I like her Americana style of music. The songs are fun and upbeat without being too energetic. “The Little Bird” is one of the songs. As the song is played I add and subtract pieces as the lyrics dictate. When I made the pieces, I wrote out the words in the speech bubbles and back-stitched over the lettering for permanence.

The little bird hops through the bright green grass,
and the bright green grass grows high.
The little bird hops through the bright green grass,
and the little bird sings “Oh my”.
“Oh my, oh my,” the little bird sings “Oh my.”

The little birds sits in a strawy nest
in the strawy nest sits still.
The little bird sits in a strawy next,
and the little bird sings “Oh well.”
“Oh well, oh well,” the little bird sings “Oh well.”

The little bird flies through the bright blue sky,
and the bright blue sky floats by.
The little bird flies through the bright blue sky
and the little bird says “Bye-bye.”
“Bye-bye, bye-bye,” the little bird sings “Bye-bye.”

Five Little Birds

I love the whimsy that the feathers add to these birds. When I made them I cut a front piece for the front and back of the body. The feathers are glued in-between and the edges stitched down.

There was one little bird in the one little tree,
He was so alone and didn’t want to be.
So he flew far away, over the sea,
And brought back a xxx bird to live in the tree.

Now there are two little birds in the one little tree
They were so alone and didn’t want to be.
So they flew far away, over the sea,
And brought back a xxx bird to live in the tree.

Now there are three little birds in the one little tree
They were so alone and didn’t want to be.
So they flew far away, over the sea,
And brought back a xxx bird to live in the tree.

Now there are four little birds in the one little tree
They were so alone and didn’t want to be.
So they flew far away, over the sea,
And brought back a xxx bird to live in the tree.

Now there are five little birds in the one little tree,
They were not alone anymore, they were a family.

The More We Get Together by Raffi
For this song I showed the parents the ASL signs for more, together, happier, and friend. We practiced first without music and then added the music in.
