Falling Leaves
Little leaves falling down flutter fingers like falling leaves
Red and yellow, orange and brown
Whirling, twirling, round and round twirl hands in circles
Falling softly to the ground flutter fingers to floor

Music

Leaves Are Falling by Carole Stephens
During this song we wiggle our fingers in a downward motion to mimic the falling leaves and then point to our nose, toes, head, ears, and elbows.

Four Autumn Leaves

This is one of those rhymes that has probably been around forever and I have no idea who wrote it originally. I found the words for this one as I was cleaning through drawers of flannel boards that have been collected over the years. I start the rhyme with the leaves laying on top of the branches and pull them off a wave them through the air as if the wind is blowing.

Four autumn leaves in a big old tree.
One blew off, then there were three.

Three autumn leaves with nothing to do.
Another blew off, then there were two.

Two autumn leaves in the hazy sun.
One blew off, then there was one.

Being all alone wasn’t much fun.
The last one blew away, then there was one.

Ocean Animals-Toddlers

Once a year, the children’s librarians in each of our buildings create a story kit that is passed around between the buildings. Ocean animals is one I helped to create with another co-worker. We include enough material for all levels of storytime programs. I made new sets of flannel boards for the kits and went all out with embroidery, beads, and sequins. Included here are portions appropriate for toddlers.
